In a machine shop environment the air turbulence is significant and unpredictable. The magnitude of the air turbulence effects can be large. In practice the use of averaging for decreasing the effect of turbulence provides only a small improvement.
Fast temperature changes and temperature gradients can cause significant errors (1...10 ppm), but they cannot be measured reliably with ordinary environmental compensation systems.
If AcWaCo is installed permanently on a machine tool, its positioning uncertainty may be improved to some 0.05-0.2 ppm (depending on the application), improving machining quality significantly without the need of calibration after initial installation.
